Grupo La Norteñita, a leading Mexican apple company, seeks to reposition 'Mansanisima' as the preferred natural and premium apple juice for health-conscious consumers.
The renowned brand seeks to expand its product line and strengthen its presence in new markets.
Problem
The company required a packaging redesign due to supply chain issues with glass containers, their primary packaging material for gallon-sized apple juice. The objective was to develop versatile packaging solutions and create a new, engaging design to appeal to a younger demographic.
In response to supply chain challenges and the rising demand for sustainable products, I designed an innovative packaging solution for Mansanisima brand. By analyzing the existing materials, I prioritized weight and volume reduction, opting for recycled cardboard with a biodegradable coating. This new packaging not only minimizes environmental impact but also significantly enhances the consumer experience. With an ergonomic design and compact size, the new container facilitates transportation and storage. Furthermore, the optimized design of the master case increases distribution efficiency, reducing logistical costs and the carbon footprint.
For this project, I chose the Design Thinking methodology because it prioritizes user needs and encourages innovative problem-solving. This approach allowed me to deeply understand consumer preferences and behaviors through empathy, ensuring that the final packaging design was not only visually appealing but also functional and aligned with real market demands.
The iterative nature of Design Thinking—prototyping, testing, and refining—helped me develop a packaging solution that effectively responds to consumer expectations. By integrating feedback at different stages, I ensured that the design evolved in a way that maximized usability, sustainability, and emotional connection with the target audience.
User Persona & Experience Mapping
I broke down the user's interview findings by motivations, pain points, and behaviors and defined a target profile to better empathize with it and prioritize goals according to it's needs.
Exploring with a mapping process allowed me to uncover pivotal moments where runners grappled with strain or injury, which often resulted in disappointment and disruptions in their training endeavors.
Creative Process
To begin with the design process for the Bag-in-Box packaging, we started by brainstorming different box alternatives. We then refined the ideas further, creating prototypes with detailed plans and cardboard to ensure optimal strength. Next, we conducted resistance tests, including compression, drop, material optimization, and pallet arrangement, to guarantee the design could support the juice’s weight and withstand both stacking and transportation.
Final Outcome
As a result, a packaging design proposal has been developed that aligns with the company's values and image. Special attention has been given to strength, ergonomics, safety, and aesthetics.
Ultimately, this packaging design proposal aims to provide the company with a strategic tool to differentiate itself in the market, capture consumer attention, and create an emotional connection with the brand through packaging interaction. This proposal is expected to contribute to the company's growth and success, strengthening its positioning and increasing its competitiveness in the industry.
